Guatemala Co-NECT PJ SAN DIEGO BUENA VISTA

Acatenango is located halfway between the capital city of Guatemala City and Atitlan. It is famous for the 3,976m high Acatenango volcano, and the volcanic ash from past eruptions has created fertile soil. The warm and gentle winds from the Pacific Ocean help dry the coffee, resulting in a complex yet well-balanced flavor.

[Farm Information]
San Diego, Guatemala Buena Vista Creating a sustainable farm that is kind to both the environment and people
SAN DIEGO BUENA VISTA coffee is grown in the rich volcanic soil of the Acatenango region, which is located at an altitude of about 1,350 to 1,800 meters. This environment, surrounded by two large volcanoes, has various microclimates, one of which is Fuego (meaning fire) Volcano, and the other is Acatenango Volcano, from which the region is named. The farm covers an area of 337 hectares, more than half of which is designated as a forest conservation area, and is a treasure trove of wildlife where the collection of plants is prohibited. In addition to coffee, various other crops are also grown, including blackberries, peaches, and avocados. The peaches grown on the farm are particularly flavorful and very popular.
This farm management that coexists with nature is the result of more than 40 years of participation in the "Bolcafe Way" project, which promotes sustainable coffee cultivation at Bolcafe, and is now introduced as a model farm that serves as an example for new members. The owner of the farm, Juan Rodolfo, is still young at 26 years old, but he learned how to run the farm next to his predecessor from his teenage years, and is already busy running around every day as the representative, coordinating 44 employees and small farmers in the neighborhood. He believes that the key to making good coffee is for workers to be positive about their work, and through obtaining RFA (Rain Forest Alliance) certification, he is also working to create an environment where farmers can work comfortably, such as setting up a nursery and clinic on the farm for pickers to use.
