[Coffee Crane Project]
The delicious coffee we drink every day is born thanks to the efforts of coffee producers.

Rwanda, where this delicious coffee is made, has experienced similar events in the past. In 1994 , a genocide occurred, killing 1 million people.
A genocide occurred between the majority and minority ethnic groups. Coffee plantations suffered heavy damage and were difficult to continue. The people of Rwanda remember those who died and pray for them every year around April 7th during the memorial period, so that such a tragic event will never be repeated.
This project aims to send folded paper cranes to Rwanda during this mourning period, with messages of peace, happiness and gratitude for the coffee producers.

Why did we think of this?
It all started with hearing a story about someone who was supporting Rwanda. In this area, there is no running water, and every day the whole family starts their day by going to get water, which takes up a lot of time and effort. So we thought that by providing running water, the children would have more time. When we asked them what they wanted to do after they had running water, they said they wanted a school. We provided running water, built a school, and taught them sewing, incorporating home economics classes that are common in Japan. This allowed them to make their own clothes and earn an income by making clothes. When we heard this story, we felt very warm, but at the same time, a big problem arose: what can we do? What we have done as developed countries, the causes of global warming, the poverty and lives of producers. It is so huge that we don't know what to do. Instead of doing nothing, we thought, what we can do now is very small, but do what we can! That's what we thought.

Karuizawa Roastery Organic Series uses beans from companies that support producers, and we value conveying the current situation of producers and making it visible. Coffee can only be harvested once a year, so income is also only once a year. It is a reality that we must not forget that drinking it continuously leads to true sustainability. It was difficult to use organic beans for this project, so we used different beans, but we hope that this project can be completed with all organic beans, and that we can deliver origami cranes to Peru and Timor-Leste. We would appreciate it if you could join us in creating a smile export. Let's spread the circle of smiles together.

*Please put the folded paper crane in the capsule and bring it to our Sumida or Karuizawa store. If you would like us to deliver it to you, we would appreciate it if you could do so at the customer's expense.
*The capsules used are made from biomass.

We are asking Zensho Fair Trade Department for their cooperation in Rwanda.
